Song: Hosanna
Artist: Starfield
"
...
I see a generation
Rising up to take the place
with selfless faith, with selfless faith
I see a near revival
...
Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like You have loved me
Break my heart for what breaks Yours
...

So I'm not sure why I do the things I do sometimes. That's natural of course. If I could plan out every moment of my life, well, clearly I wouldn't have so many "d'oh" moments now would I? I just find it interesting that my first (!) post is about a song that, well, doesn't even reflect my beliefs. For now at least.
So as some of you may or may not know, I'm not a Christian. Like many secret atheists (? but I don't even want to classify myself as such ?), I still go to bible study, and have been for a couple of years now. The reason being, I always wanted to learn more, observe Christianity/Christians, and most influentially, I made friends and grew close to them. I've realized recently though, that even though I thought I was open-minded, I still had a lot of misconceptions on my mind. There's some kind of mental block preventing me from really ... digesting. And believing. Anyway, we'll see where this all goes.
...And yet, I'm posting a Christian song. So for the longest time, I liked certain Christian ideas, in particular: its unified message/hope. I liked how it had the potential of bringing people together for a common cause, even if I myself didn't believe it, or that it "just wasn't for me." I suppose back then that's why I still liked to listen to Christian songs sometimes (granted, I stripped all Christian meaning away from the songs, kind of like this one still.)
It's just, I love the potential behind songs "like these," - new hope, selfless, open eyes, broken heart(s).
So I would have liked to write my first post on something I understand or think about a lot (recently it has been about ideal men/women requirements), but instead, I want to write about something ... now. It feels more real this way. Something I am struggling with. And naturally, of course it'd be something I don't understand. Therefore, I'm writing about a song I'm listening to right now which speaks of something quite beautiful - unity. It goes also with the book I'm reading right now, "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel (which I highly recommend for everybody - atheists to reevaluate, christians to fortify) as it's leading me to reevaluate Christianity for what it truly is.

I'm glad that you're still evaluating and "reevaluating"... I hope that never stops being the case, whatever you may believe at a given time.
ReplyDeleteOne of the nice things about Christianity is that not only is there the potential for some of those things you talk about, but also the promise of their future fulfillment.
ReplyDeleteAs for struggling with what you believe, I think it's usually a good thing. When you wrestle with beliefs, you start to figure out which ones are truly, personally "yours" and what you've just heard or picked up a long the way.
Karen Shih never stops thinking about her life I know this for a fact.
ReplyDeleteThis is really good. Evaluating your options and truly taking the time to think about them is the way to go. It gives you security of mind and the knowledge to back up what you believe.
